¿Por qué las pastas blanqueadoras no funcionan?

Why don't whitening pastes work?

At Dr. INUK we like to democratize the knowledge of our experts to improve the health and aesthetics of our clients' smiles.

Whitening toothpastes generally work to remove surface stains on your teeth and give them a whiter appearance. However, there are some important considerations you should keep in mind:

1. Limited effectiveness: Whitening toothpastes are generally not as effective as other teeth whitening methods, such as treatments performed by a dentist or the use of whitening strips. They may slightly improve the color of your teeth, but do not usually produce dramatic results.

2 . Superficial stains: These pastes are most effective for removing superficial stains caused by the consumption of coffee, tea, red wine or tobacco. They do not usually work as well in cases of deeper discoloration or changes in the natural color of the teeth, when the yellowish substances are already inside the enamel.

3. Time and consistency : To see results with a whitening toothpaste, you generally need to use it regularly over an extended period of time , following the manufacturer's instructions. In addition, there are active ingredients that require prolonged contact with the enamel for it to whiten. A two-minute brushing is insufficient for most active ingredients to act correctly.

4. Be careful with abrasion: Some whitening toothpastes use abrasive agents, which have a mechanical function (like a file, for better understanding), which means they can wear down tooth enamel over time if used excessively. It is important to follow the product's instructions and not overuse it.

5.- Old-fashioned ingredients: most whitening pastes on the market use old-fashioned ingredients, such as baking soda or the use of silica to achieve mechanical action.

6.- Cheap pastas, cheap ingredients: mass-market pastas (those you find in the supermarket for less than €5) usually use cheap raw materials, and as such, the whitening result is mediocre.

In summary, whitening toothpastes can be helpful in keeping teeth looking whiter and removing surface stains , but they are not a replacement for professional teeth whitening treatments or whitening strips. if what you want is to extract the yellowish substances from inside the enamel and obtain more notable and permanent results.
