5 signos en tu boca que deberían preocuparte

5 signs in your mouth that should worry you

Dr. INUK's mission is to develop products that help simplify oral care habits, putting the user as the center, with the aim of improving their oral health and minimizing the diseases that can be contracted due to lack of oral hygiene.

Oral check-ups are very important, so much so that sometimes they can save lives. As we already mentioned in another post, there is a scientifically proven relationship between oral health and general health. This relationship is so close that an expert can detect diseases through signs and symptoms just by looking at the mouth.

How can it be?

The mouth is the entrance to everything our body needs: water, food and air. So there is a direct relationship between the digestive and respiratory systems.

It is also the main entrance for bacteria, since the largest organ in our body, the skin, is extremely safe and waterproof. Therefore, the mouth is a "red carpet" entrance for bacteria. Be careful, not all bacteria are bad . But we will tell you this another day.

Furthermore, through small wounds, bleeding gums or ulcers, bacteria can reach the bloodstream directly, causing endocarditis, problems during pregnancy, childbirth, pneumonia or even heart disease.

This relationship is bidirectional, that is, a digestive problem may also end up affecting the mouth.

Below we highlight some of the signs to take into account and their causes.

  • Presence of canker sores : Everyone has had canker sores, but what should draw our attention is when it happens continuously. Normally, it is linked to a lowering of defenses. It can also be caused by hormonal problems, lack of vitamins or minerals or even stress.
  • Halitosis: better known as "bad breath." It should be noted that bad breath is not considered bad if it is because you have recently eaten something "powerful" like aioli. We are referring to constant bad breath and it can come from a liver, digestive or even respiratory disease.
  • Tooth loss: it also has a very direct relationship with the loss of periodontal bone and can be caused by the appearance of osteoporosis, a disease characterized by a decrease in bone density due to the loss of bone tissue.
  • Dry mouth: It happens especially when there is a deficiency of group B vitamins and anemia. These can, in addition to dryness, cause cracks and pain in the tongue.
  • Gum disease: if you are diabetic, this may interest you. People who are, tend to have more serious and frequent changes in their gums. And certain research shows that infections in the mouth can alter blood glucose levels and as such, make it difficult to control sugar levels.

These are just some of the diseases, but as we mentioned at the beginning of this post, there is a close relationship between the body and our mouth. We could add, for example, some types of cancer, eating disorders or arthritis.

WHAT SHOULD I DO?

If you suffer from any of these symptoms, first of all , do not make your own conclusions and make an appointment with your trusted dentist or family doctor to have a look at you.

It is important to mention to the professional if you are taking any medication , since many of these symptoms can come from taking them.
